Written by Ashton Deroy: So I finally sat down and started learning about the sales channel of Amazon.ca . What did I learn about this channel? I learned that this channel sucks if you are someone trying to make money off of it! It sucks because you are indexed closely with competitors, products you post are quickly buried & competitors can easily under cut your prices to take your share of the market. I mean it is easy to make these claims but lets talk proof. 

Products can be quickly buried in the indexes –

 She has to compete with 1,126,075 other product listings and her book will  be buried depending on how recent it was posted & bids for pay-per-click promotion right from Amazon.ca. 

It pays to list for the market! – Because Amazon does the indexing they can make it unfavorably beneficial to sellers who want to pay Amazon to eclipse their own competitors. Especially with their pay-per-click campaigns that you can do right from the Amazon seller service. 

A lot of writers do campaigns on GoodReads  but honestly from a buyer’s perspective if you are not a hot writer. Who gives a flying F****? 

Competitors under cut costs, manufacturers obsolete their own products. These are the listings for weighted vests. Two of them are from the same manufacturer. Only one listing sells them for substantially less than the other under the index for Weighted vests. It is pretty crappy if you are paying for an indexing under that term and then not only does your product get buried by a higher keyword bidder but they decide to under cut your pricing by  a rounded 42% on the promoted listing. Basically with this process Amazon takes little to no responsibility to their sellers & manufacturers can release new, cheaper products to undercut your existing listings.

The last worry I have about an indexing like this for sellers, entrepreneurs and etc. Is that your competitors can see too easily what you are doing and then obsolete your postings. So say you have a bidder below you and you have ideal pricing. All the bidder below you has to do is check on the indexing and then change their pricing which virtually makes your pay-per-click purchase a waste of money!

(You can be top bidder in the index & get lower hits because your competitor is f****** you on price

Who do I think is ultimately benefiting from Amazon practices?

The company, the shopper & the common items manufacturers. Not the sales agents themselves! Why aren’t the sales agents benefiting? High competition in a toxic cluttered market with nasty rules on favorable indexing based on a bidding system. If you actually hear people talk about their amazon business they actually sound kind of like Multi-level marketing agents, in the sense they are buying from a common manufacturer, not likely making a living wage & having a useless sales channel. 

What is the solution? Take your business out of Amazon, put it in to a Shopify integrated Social media WordPress blog.

Then maybe you do not need an E-Commerce solution. Companies still in a growth marketing phase may want to avoid paying E-Commerce fees while growing their social networks rather than piling expenses that can kill your business! 
  • How Supportive is your environment? – Some business environments don’t support WiFi & some areas barely support internet. If you are in an area with under developed wires or consistently down lines. The last thing you want is to start making your business rely on online solutions. The fact is the companies that provide your internet are not going to refund your business inconveniences when your service goes out! They are going to refund a partial payment of your service. So your internet service can become a detriment to your service which is why you must have a backup plan that is practical and affordable for when your internet goes down! 
  • How secure is your solution? – Is your solution being updated on time, has your Commerce solution had a hacking scandal recently? How was it addressed?
