Social media Marketing Sucks. Especially Facebook!

Social media Marketing Sucks

This article is written on personal opinion found in evidence, testimonials & statements on the current state of security on the world wide web?

Thinking of a $20-$100 social media Facebook campaign? I am Ashton Deroy former sales rep, social media marketer & SEO writer. At one time I would have encouraged you to take out a campaign with me to help boost your sales, brand awareness & gain attention to a message.

This was before I started investigating why Facebook advertising doesn’t work, why they use artificial metrics & how Facebook has done very little to drive sales to campaigns I have been involved in.

Meet DocahBear, On January 21st, 2017 he published a video on a Facebook campaign he had run with a $30 credit he had been given by Facebook. In this video, he discusses how Facebook not only gave him a bill beyond his desired budget but how Facebook had messed with his ad, cost him peek advertising times & delivered false metrics based on Facebook using a poorly set-up counter to calculate conversion & views. (The industry is begging Facebook to change!)

Did you know 3 seconds counts as a view on Facebook? However on YouTube you need to watch for 30 seconds to be counted as a view.

What is click fraud and how to prevent it? This was published by ClickFrauds on YouTube January 12th 2017. The video shows that there is a massive hole in the digital marketing industry when it comes to bot driven Key performance indicators (KPI) , how bots are costing ad buyers money & how to prevent it. My impression of this video upon seeing it was when a campaign can be 98% bot views, Google & Facebook is not doing enough to address the issue!

This was published by White Ops July 10th 2015, unlike the other two videos, this was published two years ago. Proving that advertising fraud on Google and Facebook was brought to the companies attention a long time ago. in this video, Michael Tiffany talks about how click fraud needs to be made less profitable and how his company can help. Don’t get me wrong this was made to boost the reputation of an online security company but he brings up alarming statistics about fraud click advertising and how Google, Facebook & Publisher websites are affected.

Ashton Deroy’s Personal testimony: I have probably spent $200 over my time running a social media marketing business to try & create conversions through Facebook. I have sold to one client an amount that wasn’t nearly enough to cover my initial investments. I only had 3 inbound leads & for whatever reason, those deals could not be completed.

Personally, I have seen telemarketing, Email Marketing, & Door to door sales be far more effective than digital advertising! That is right I am actually telling people to go back to the basics. Send messages where people are on the other end to receive them, & build your brand based on person to person engagement. As a sidebar, I tried to engage with 5 ads yesterday through Facebook and no one responded or served me.  Proving that using Facebook for the engagement your brand seeks, does not quite pay off when you use it wrong! People are more persuasive than content.

One of the questions was “What does your brand even do?”

My old rule was, unless they benefit you for free! Why would you pay to market on them? So far WordPress & Google still meet that criteria & Facebook dropped the ball.

Why we aren’t currently social media marketing

Ashton Deroy writes: It is plain to see I still write Social media, website & SEO content. However I have not taken out any web based advertising in 2017 at all. Why haven’t I taken out any ad space? According to Marketline Instagram and Facebook are the best affordable mediums for a B2B targeted campaign.

What am I doing instead? I am relying on content to gain traction, I am reaching out in the community and utilizing the SEO tools with the WordPress.com Business package. Listen it is clear to see that within this year if I want to continue running my business I will need a new advertising + Sales campaign! It is just a matter of creating one that will bring in new contacts that I can convert in to clients. I am also going to hang up posters around Toronto.

It is also important to not here that it is great if Social Media Marketing boosts your idea! It is not great if your idea lives and dies with Social Media Marketing…

There is no conversion guarantees in Social media marketing. Some people like to think like, okay if I get in front of this ____ people, I will sell to 4% of the people! It is highly idealistic, but you a web based business, If you convert 1%, it is a miracle. Plus web businesses have the cliche flaw of being really under developed. I sold to my first client thanks to social media advertising, but it was a small sell.

Minimizing advertising to focus on development. Ironically, I saw Beaut doing this and I thought it was stupid as hell! It still kind of is, because my sales projects aren’t down just my advertising is down. Toronto Businessphere needs a new logo, we need to print merchandise & create a community relations plan.

Capital expansion. Ashton Deroy is going to be starting a job at Teleperformance in time to put a little capital in the business and keep fueling this little fire. Don’t let the internet fuel you, these businesses require a massive amount of capital to start, and a massive amount to keep going! Considering people that enhance Toronto-Businessphere get paid. The need is still present for full time employment to continue development of the brand.

My friend actually said “This is a good idea but I wouldn’t spend money on it until it makes money.” Having no business background she had no idea for an idea to make money you actually have to spend a lot of money. Business projects are long term investments that require capital to fund and can require increasing amounts of capital for five years before even approaching a break even point. This was something I learned through studying Financial accounting in school though, not from working telemarketing where her and I met.

I do see other people online begging for their projects to expand so it can become full time work. I actually don’t think that is what I want at this time… I think I am glad this project is still small because if it was big it would be out of control a bit. I also think I miss the working world and I can’t wait to go back in to it and develop more professionally.
